The Hills Are Alive

And breathe… The alpine air never felt so good with these perfect luxury chalets in Verbier to use as a base for your summer days in this famous ski resort, the stuff of dreams!

Le Ti is a gorgeous chalet set back off the Chemin de Clambin, in the heart of Verbier. Set back off the Chemin de Clambin, in the heart of this popular ski resort. For lovers of chalet chic, Le Ti is one of the most impressive luxury chalets in Verbier, that perfect cosy blend of gingham, wrought iron, charming antiques and reclaimed wood. The properties owners tell us that they drew inspiration from hunting lodges to create this alpine slice of heaven. The flooring, for example, uses beautiful old wood and stone which is from Borgoigne in France.

Situated on the famed Chemin de Clambin, the chalet is just a hop skip and a jump from the stunning natural landscape above the luxury chalets in Verbier, just pack your picnic pull on some sturdy boots and the mountains are yours to explore. You could take a stroll along the Bisse du Levron, an ancient water channel part of the water irrigation system known as “The Bisse of Val de Bagnes”, offering incredible views. This is an easy, almost flat walk, which runs from Les Ruinettes – Le Vacheret – Les Planards – La Marlénaz – Chute du bisse, great for the entire family.

Once home again, the property has plenty of room for a large family and or a group of friends, sleeping seven in on the main sleeping floor and another two up on the gorgeous mezzanine. Whilst oozing charm the chalet still offers a sophisticated atmosphere for evening entertaining marrying Alpine detailing with rich textiles and decorative chandeliers.  There is hanging pendant in the sitting room which was an inspiration from travels to Morocco, other highlights include a lovely George II walnut and parcel-gilt mirror that hangs in an entrance corridor complimenting a wonderful George II oak chest on a stand from circa 1730. There is a rare early 18th-century American chest of drawers made from maple and tulipwood in the bunk room and a stunning Venetian chandelier over the staircase from the 1930s.

And if you can’t summon up the energy to leave the beautiful surroundings of the chalet of an evening, there is a terrific entertainment room with pool table, bar and flat screen TV. Retro leather chairs and comfy sofas make it the perfect place to relax after dinner. The chalet is totally wired with a Crestron entertainment system throughout and the well-stocked wine cellar is sure to keep most happy long into the summer evenings.

The “piece de resistance” however is a beautiful outdoor terrace with stone barbeque and elevated hot tub, we can’t imagine a better place to catch your breath, the perfect way to end a summers’ day in the mountains.

For larger groups, The Bella Coola Estate is available. Managed and serviced by Bramble Ski this wonderful estate has two chalets exclusive, eclectic and eccentric residences opens its doors to 30 degrees, available through the super exclusive chalet holiday company Haute Montagne, we get a look behind carefully guarded closed doors.

Bella Coola’s classic Swiss exterior belies an extensive property full of surprises not least the incredible pool area and spa which show a Moorish influence with the use of a fabulous Italian chandelier adorned with Moorish busts.  There are even elephants adorning the champagne buckets in the relaxed light-filled bar and lounge area overlooking the pool.

The whole property exudes a joyously hedonistic colonial vibe. One can imagine warm summer evenings sharing a gin cocktail overlooking the mountains from Bella Coola’s terraces.  This colonial influence continues in one of the guest bedrooms with a magnificent 19th century Anglo-Indian four poster bed and with the interior lift which is lined with stunning Indian dhurries.

Interesting artefacts are around every corner in the chalet a great many sourced by Daniel Morris of the well-known art advisors Corfield Morris in London and New York who has worked with the owners for the past 12 years.  We were particularly fascinated by a remarkable set of prehistoric fossilised elk antlers. Measuring over 2.5 metres wide, the antlers were discovered in an Irish peat bog in the 19th century.

An art lover’s property, this chalet would make the perfect base for culture vultures making their way to Verbier for The Verbier Festival this summer.   The international music festival takes place this year from 22nd July to the 7th August. With artists and conductors coming from far and wide such as the violin legend Kyung Wha Chung set to open the festival with acclaimed Swiss conductor Charles Dutoit.

With its opulent and calming interiors in Bella Coola you may find yourself wanting to stay throughout the entire festival soaking up not only the performances in the Salle des Combins but also the jazz concerts laid on by Fest’Off, the spin-off from the main festival also offers special walks to discover the environs of Verbier and music workshops for children.

Whether or not you decide to leave the chalet and enjoy the classical festival there is so much to excite the senses at Bella Coola we will be hoping for a return visit to this magical chalet with its enchanting artefacts.
