When people think of Verbier, normally the snowy peaks and excellent skiing come to mind. However, the summer months have so much more to offer. This picturesque resort comes alive with the sounds of cowbells, marmots, mountain bikes and, somewhat unexpectedly, classical music! Read on to discover more about a perfect Verbier summer according to our Pre-Arrival Assistant Brook, who is based here year-round.
Mountain biking and hiking are the most popular summertime activities here in Verbier. For thrill-seekers, there is an abundance of mountain biking tracks to choose from. Around Les 4 Vallées, you will find 9 downhill tracks, 23 enduro trails, and 500 km of cross-country tracks. If you are looking to rent gear, look no further than Mountain Air. We partner with their excellent team to kit you out, ready for your downhill adventure.
Continuing with the biking theme, the resort is proud to host the Verbier E-bike Festival in August. Head to one of the testing zones to try out the latest E-bikes from the top brands or join one of the tours. The Gourmet Tour would be at the top of my list! Who doesn’t want to cruise around the mountain with friends for a day, stopping to enjoy the tasty local cuisine on offer?
Speaking of festivals, we must mention the Verbier Festival – a world-famous gathering of some of the best classical musicians from across the globe. This year, the Verbier Festival will be celebrating 30 years of bringing classical music to the heart of the Swiss Alps. Around town, you will find a selection of both large and more intimate performances. The festival has something for everyone – from little ones to die-hard classical music fans.
Now, I couldn’t write this blog without mentioning the Bagnes Capitale de la Raclette (lovingly known as cheese fest)! Bagnes is famous for the cheese that is produced in the region. In September, this festival is held to celebrate the cheese produced throughout the year. Along with a wide selection to sample and a display tent dedicated to award-winning cheeses, you can see the procession of the ‘flower queen’ cows, traditional music and dancing, and enjoy other stalls selling local produce. You will feel like a true local after experiencing this unique (and delicious!) festival.
Heading back to the mountain, a walk that I always enjoy would be the Bisse Du Levron. Take the lift to the Runiettes station and follow the picturesque stream as it carves its way along the mountain. Along the relatively flat 12km loop, you can stop at one of the picnic benches for a spot of lunch, or to just sit, relax and enjoy the views. This walk is suitable for all ages and is a lovely Verbier summer day out for families.
In the summertime, most of the restaurants open their sun terraces so that you can enjoy their culinary delights while soaking up the rays with some chilled rose or an Aperol spritz. On the mountain, La Marmotte and Chez Dany are a must! Both boast incredible views over the valley and some delicious food on the menu (try the pizzas at Chez Dany, and rösti at La Marmotte!). In town, enjoy the cool vibes at The W, or head over to Vinabagnes for a glass of wine and some tapas.
